One of the sisters with children Over the past 140 years, the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia have given the fruits of their contemplation in the apostolate of Catholic education. With a love of Truth and a dedication to the Church, the sisters have brought generations of young people the message of Christ.

The Congregation is presently in 22 schools across seven states; teaching children and young adults from pre-school through college level; in schools both suburban and inner city, private and diocesan.

Our mission encompasses the following goals:
    • To enlighten minds and inspire hearts with a love of the Truth and, most especially, the person of Christ, the source of all truth
    • To encourage reverence for the Eucharist, devotion to Mary and fidelity to the Church
    • To promote a greater awareness of the sanctity of life and the dignity of the human person
    • To provide students with the freedom of a liberal education so that with the development of skills and a strong academic foundation they may fulfill their God-given vocation
    • To encourage the promotion of an authentic Catholic culture and thereby enable students to appreciate all that is good, true and beautiful
    • To strengthen family life by offering support, guidance and instruction to parents in their role as the primary educators of their children
Sisters praying For the St. Cecilia Dominican, prayer revolves around the liturgy, especially the divine Eucharistic Sacrifice. In our Motherhouse and in each of our smaller convents, the chapel is the heart of our home. Here the day begins and ends. The retired sisters engage in an apostolate of prayer with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament daily from 7 a.m. until noon. They pray for the Congregation’s work in the apostolate, as well as for the needs of the world. Retreat days, Adoration opportunities, private times of prayer, chapel visits and the prayer of the Divine Office three times daily provide the stimulus and context for a rich prayer life.
