Cloistered Dominican Nuns of Summit, NJAbout the Dominican Nuns | A Day With the Dominican Nuns | Contact the Nuns Established in 1919, the Dominican Nuns of Summit were founded from the first American Perpetual Rosary monastery in Union City, NJ. Along with the traditional monastic observances, the nuns maintain perpetual adoration and perpetual rosary. They keep an uninterrupted vigil day and night in front of the Blessed Sacrament, making intercession for all. Each monastery of nuns is a family within the Dominican family. Beyond the household tasks involved in keeping the monastery running, there is correspondence to write, mass enrollments to send, meals to be cooked, habits to be sewn, gardens to be cultivated and weeded, pickling and preserving, printing, calligraphy, and the making of liturgical vestments and rosaries. The nuns also engage in various intellectual work. United with the poor Christ, their work is geared toward frugality and self-sufficiency.
